Just came across this on Search Engine Land:
According to TechCrunch, classifieds site Edgeio is shutting down after having run out of money. The site was targeting a global audience but was fundamentally local. Edgeio competitor Oodle recently redesigned and appears to be doing well. And the classifieds category continues to gain traffic.
Hundreds, if not thousands of real estate agents used Edgeio but it’s now a thing of the past. The reason? Lack of funding. Edgeio provided free classified listings and hoped to make their money from advertisements on the site. While it seemed like a good idea, and has worked well for Oodle, it didn’t work for Edgeio.
The failure of Edgeio is another reminder to agents to be constantly on the lookout for places on the net to advertise their listings. You never know how long the site will be around.
